Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line
The Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line Board of Directors is seeking four committed and motivated leaders to join its Board of Directors. The successful candidates will work closely with other board members and the staff of the Youth Line to help the organization realize its mission, live its values as well as set the direction of its strategic plan. Our new members will officially join us at our Annual General Meeting taking place mid-June.
As part of Youth Line's commitment to youth community engagement, we are recruiting youth members, ages 18-26 years of age, as well as non-youth members, above 26 years of age. Training and learning opportunities will be provided. In addition, one of the vacancies that must be filled is the treasurer position; therefore we will require at least one of our new members to have a solid background in finance.
Since 1994, Youth Line has provided peer-support to LGBTQ youth and youth with questions in Ontario via a confidential and toll-free phone line. More recently, the organization has begun providing support through online and web-based services.
To ensure a Board of Directors with a diverse skill set, the Youth Line is seeking applicants with experience or interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Program/Service
- Finance/Business
- Anti-Oppression
- Community Outreach
- Marketing/Communications
- Fundraising/Events
In general, Board members must be:
- A role model of Youth Line values
- Passionate about Youth Line's mission
- Willing to devote a total of 5-8 hours per month to Youth Line matters
- Available to prepare for and participate in monthly board meetings (which generally run 2.5 hours)
- Available to prepare for and attend regular meetings of at least one additional committee
- A resident of Ontario over the age of 18
As a youth organization serving a diverse community, the Youth Line strongly encourages applicants from traditionally under-represented communities and populations. Meetings of the Youth Line are generally held in a wheelchair accessible location in downtown Toronto but applicants from outside the Greater Toronto Area are encouraged to more broadly represent our provincial community.
