Craftathon is LGBT Youth Line’s annual fundraiser where friends and supporters of Youth Line come together for an afternoon to make crafts, learn new crafts, spend time together, and have fun.
2018 is our 3rd Annual Craftathon and this year, we are hoping to raise $20,000 for Youth Line and the important work that we do to support 2SLGBTQ youth across the province.
Crafting is an important community endeavor! Although crafting can be done alone, it’s more fun with groups of people. When you craft or begin a new hobby, you join a community of people with similar interests. We decided to focus our annual fundraiser on crafting because it’s a fun, low-key way to spend an afternoon, meet new people, and learn new things!
The Craftathon is a family-friendly event with activities for people of all ages and varying degrees of crafting skills. We are hosting the event at Sketch Working Arts, which is one of the most trusted organizations in Toronto for creating safe spaces for marginalized youth using arts-based programming. Many of our crafting activities will be facilitated to help attendees learn new crafts.
Our priority is to make sure everyone that attends has a great time, goes home with new skills, creates something with their own hands, and feels great about knowing that they helped the Youth Line in their mission to support 2SLGBTQ youth across Ontario.
Last year, we had a table for paper crafts, knitting, button-making, zine-making, cross-stitching, and even a create your own food craft!. There will be Crafting Leads on-hand to teach you to how make crafts, help you craft, or give you words of encouragement. Expect to use different kinds of paper, beads, fabrics, washi tapes, stamps, magazines, stickers, and more!
