The image of the butterflies was taken during a short stay in Provence and the young men were photographed in San Francisco near the Suto baths. Sometimes there is a resonance between two images that begs for a pairing. The strength of a bond between lovers is often intensified by a shared voyage to unfamiliar territory. Observing the patterning on the butterflies' wings that are known markers to attract and guide a potential mate I thought of the codes of behaviour and dress in the homosexual arena that can operate in a similar manner.
