About The Line Art Auction

The Line Art Auction has been an important fundraising event for the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line's unique and vital service of peer-support. This event provides an opportunity for our allies in the arts and business communities to build a network of support aimed at improving the lives of LGBT youth. Now entering Line Art's 12th year, we have demonstrated our capacity to execute a successful and enjoyable event which benefits artists, our organizations and our sponsors.

Our collection features not only the fine works of established artists but also provides an opportunity to highlight the work of emerging and youth artists. To this end, we have ensured that our values of community development and accessibility are embedded in Line Art Auction planning. We want the night to be enjoyed by art collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Stay tuned for what is bound to be the best Line Art Auction yet.

The Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line is a toll-free Ontario-wide peer-support phone and instant messaging service for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, 2-spirited, queer and questioning young people. The Youth Line is a queer-positive and sex-positive line for youth to ask questions that they may not feel comfortable asking elsewhere. A few words from our curator

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Lesbian Gay Bi and Trans Youth Line,

As an artist, I have supported the Lesbian Gay Bi and Trans Youth Line through the Line Art Auction since 2005. This year I am honoured to act as Guest Curator, for this important fundraising event, that benefits the LGBT Youth Line. The work being done at the Youth Line is vital to Ontario's LGBT youth who can't wait for it to get better; youth who find themselves struggling with their identity, searching for community - searching for themselves in an environment that isn't always accepting. This year's Line Art Collection was born out of a "wish list" I created shortly after I was asked to be Guest Curator. That list was composed of the names of emerging and established artists who inspire, engage and excite me. They are the names of the participating artists you see here; artists who, without hesitation, responded with a resounding YES when I approached them about donating a work to the Line Art Auction. I am grateful to the participating fifty artists who have generously contributed - you made my job easier. Thank you!! Thank you to April Hickox who did a fantastic job as last year's Guest Curator and came back to assist me this year - April was invaluable in helping me to realize this year's collection. Thank you to Brandon Sawh, Jennifer Fodden and Alexandra Looky at the Youth Line - their support and enthusiasm were at all times appreciated. Finally, thank you to all of you - the friends and supporters of the GLBT Youth Line who continue to embrace the Line Art Auction. I look forward to seeing all of you on November 3rd - paddles raised high: championing this important cause.

Sincerely,
Chris Ironside
