When we talk
about sex, it is important to find out whether or
not the information is useful. For example, we may
know that using a condom during anal sex can reduce
the risk of transmitting an STI, but unless you
feel your partner will agree to use one as well,
then all the safer sex talk might have just been
that – talk. For this reason, it is important
that you discuss not only what is safe/unsafe, but
also what you feel are realistic goals for yourself
in terms of sexual behaviour. For example, a person
who chooses not to use condoms may decide that they
are willing to avoid anal sex because it is high
risk for HIV, but willing to continue having unprotected
oral sex.
Remember that YOU are worthy of good health and
always deserve to have YOUR choices respected by
your partners. |
