Youth Line Announces the “Spirit of Will Munro” Award
Will Munro was Punk-rocker, DJ, queer activist, artist, volunteer, civic glue to Toronto queer culture. He changed where and how Toronto’s queer community celebrated public life. Will Munro was instrumental in creating safe space for queer and Trans people in the city of Toronto. Will was also a very beloved volunteer and staff person for 14 years at the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line.
In his memory, the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line is proud to announce the “Spirit of Will Munro” Award. This award is made possible through the continuous and generous donation from Kristyn Wong-Tam. This newly established award will be given to an individual or group who has demonstrated the ability to promote LGBTQ community development and youth empowerment through social entrepreneurship and the arts.
This yearly $10,000 award is available to Ontario youth (under 27 years of age) to establish a project, organization or business at the local level that provides youth friendly, sustainable community growth for LGBTQ people. The Youth Line will be accepting applications for this award in 2010 and the first award recipients will be announced at the 2011 Community Youth Awards.
