Join our Board of Directors

LGBT YouthLine is looking for youth (18-29 years old) and non-youth candidates to join our Board of Directors. There are currently three positions available to be filled.

Our Board works with the Executive Director, staff, and volunteers to fulfill our mission to serve 2SLGBTQ youth. As a Board Member, you can expect to participate in a wide range of activities, such as:

  • Attending and participating in monthly board meetings
  • Policy writing, research, policy review
  • Representing the organization at public events
  • Participating in fundraising initiatives
  • Planning for the future of the organization
  • Chairing and sitting on various committees.

Board Members are required to serve a minimum of one 2-year term, with an average monthly commitment of 15 to 20 hours.  Hours include attendance at our monthly board meetings on the last Thursday evening of each month, participation in two committees, and supporting and attending YouthLine events.

What we’re looking for

Because of our commitment to youth community engagement, we are looking for youth members (18-29) and non-youth members (30+) to be a part of our Board of Directors.

Interested candidates should expect to commit at least 15 to 20 hours per month to YouthLine matters over a 2-year term.  We are also looking for those with existing skills or a strong interest in building experience in the following areas:

  • Financial management
  • Fundraising (event planning,brainstorming, marketing, etc.)
  • Communications
  • Program planning and evaluation
  • Policy development
  • Human Resources knowledge
  • Governance
  • Public relations and media

A one-page statement explaining your thoughts on the challenges that face 2SLGBTQ youth today.

The LGBT YouthLine only considers applicants that identify as part of the 2SLGBTQ community. Grounded in principles of Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression, we recognize and encourage applications from communities that are further marginalized in employment opportunities, including: Indigenous people, people of African/Caribbean/Black descent, people of colour, Trans-feminine people, people living with disabilities, people with experiences of migration, and people who have experiences of poverty. We particularly welcome applicants from these communities who are youth (18 to 29). Applicants are encouraged to self-identify in their cover letters or one-page statements, which will be kept confidential.
