Become a YouthOrganize Volunteer

LGBT YouthLine is looking for 2SLGBTQ youth (16-29 years old) residing in the Peel and/or Halton regions to join YouthOrganize. Volunteers will work in small pods (4-5 volunteers) to create and/or continue community-based initiatives that address community needs in their local regions.

About LGBT YouthLine

Lesbian Gay Bi Trans YouthLine is a Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 & under) across Ontario. We do this by:

  • Providing anonymous peer support & referrals;
  • Training youth to provide support to other youth; &
  • Providing resources so youth can make informed decisions.

What we’re looking for

  • Youth between the ages of 16-29; 
  • Identify as 2-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Intersex, Gender Queer, Queer, Asexual, Questioning or another identity that falls within the 2SLGBTQ+ spectrum;  
  • Currently live within the Peel or Halton regions

You can apply as an individual, or as a group of up to 5 people. At the end of the retreat, YouthOrganize volunteers will be grouped into pods of 4-5 based on their interests and learning styles. Group applicants will be kept together, but can expect to collaborate with other groups with similar organizing interests.

As a YouthOrganize volunteer, you must commit to:

  • At least 10-15 hours/month between October 2020 – August 2021; 
  • Attending a virtual retreat during the day of October 24, the evening of October 29, and the day of November 7; 
  • Attending monthly online meetings;  
  • The duration of the program (10 months)

Application Details

Successful applicants will be invited to either a phone or a video interview (via Zoom) to be scheduled between October 5th and October 16th.

Grounded in principles of Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression, we recognize and encourage applications from communities that are further marginalized, including: Black, Indigenous and people of colour, Trans-feminine people, Disabled people, people with experiences of migration, people who have experiences of poverty, and people of high school age. We are particularly interested in candidates from outside the Greater Toronto Area. All work can be done online.
