Introducing ‘By Our Own Rules!’ an educational resource navigating sports through a trans/non-binary lens.
Trans athletes are currently facing a climate of increased hostility, with trans women facing the greatest scrutiny and discrimination. A recent ban on trans athletes participating in the Olympics and the ongoing controversy about trans inclusion in the WNBA continue to impact trans athletes at all levels. In Canada, legislation banning trans women and girls from participating in sports was recently enacted in Alberta.
This resource was created by trans youth for trans youth. It was designed to help guide peers navigating the unique challenges that being trans and/or non-binary in sports can present.
This resource touches upon topics such as trans/NB athlete rights and policies, choosing a sport to play, navigating locker rooms, how to stay safe, and many more! It also provides youth with affirmations and existing media related to the success of trans/NB athletes across the globe
