Craftathon 2017

STAY TUNED FOR OUR 2018 DATE!

LGBT Youth Line is Proud to Announce the 2nd Annual LGBT Youth Line Craftathon!

What is the Craftathon?

LGBT Youth Line’s Craftathon began in 2016, when we hosted an afternoon fundraiser where people made crafts together, learned new crafts, spent time together eating and having fun! We raised over $3,500 for LGBTTQQ2SIA youth across Ontario. It was so much fun, and such a success, that we’re doing it again! Sign on now at bit.ly/craft4YL

Once you’ve signed on, check out our info package for all the details on how to fundraise for your participation in the Craftathon! See it here: craftathon info package!

This year, we are anticipating 100 attendees & our goal is to raise $10,000.

Join us on February 11, 2017 from 11am-4pm at Sketch Working Arts. Come learn a new craft, make crafts for yourself and others, enjoy snacks and food, spend time with other craft makers, all while raising money for LGBT Youth Line.

Accessibility notes:

  • Food will be served
  • This is a child-friendly event
  • The space is wheelchair accessible
  • There will be ASL interpretation available upon request

Crafting for LGBT Youth Line

Crafting is an important community endeavor! Although crafting can be done alone, it’s more fun with groups of people. When making a community quilt or mural, many people come together to create something beautiful. When you craft or begin a new hobby, you join a community of people with similar interests. Crafting resonates with queer people and queer youth, and that is part of what makes the Craftathon so important. When you join us to crafts at our Craftathon, you are supporting a wide quilt-like network of LGBTQ2S youth across the province.

This year, our event will be hosted at a youth space with primarily youth crafters and some special guests!

Why Should I Support the Craftathon?

By sponsoring the Craftathon, you are supporting an event that is much more than a fundraiser. The Craftathon is an event that brings together people of different ages, identities and experiences to enjoy a shared passion for crafting and supporting LGBTQ2S youth.

The Craftathon will be a family-friendly event with activities for people of all ages and varying degrees of crafting skills. We are hosting the event at Sketch Working Arts, which is one of the most trusted organizations in Toronto for creating safe spaces for marginalized youth using arts-based programming. Many of our crafting activities will be facilitated to help attendees learn the craft. Many of the facilitators will be youth artists and youth art-based groups sharing their expertise.

Our priority is to make sure everyone that attends has a great time, goes home having learned new skills, creates something with their own hands, and feels great about knowing that they helped the Youth Line to continue supporting thousands of young people across Ontario.

What can I make at the Craftathon?

Last year, we made personalized magnets, buttons, and mirrors.  We had a table for beading and other tables making cards and snail mail art. This year, we have cross stitching, an amazing kids table, food art and so much more. Expect to use different kinds of beads, fabrics, washi tapes, stamps, magazines, stickers, and more!
