Give the Gift of Cheer – LGBT Youth Line at the Drake General Store, November 28^th, 2017

What is it?

Youth Line is very pleased to bring you a Giving Tuesday event, called Give the Gift of Cheer!

The holidays can be hard times for Two-Spirit, Queer and Trans youth. That’s why we’re open throughout the holiday season, on the lines, and campaigning for your support. We will be posting positive messages of support on our social media channels to bring hope, light and perspective to youth through the holidays. We’re inviting you to join us in giving us the gift of inspiring messages for youth this holiday season.

You can do this at our pop up event taking place at the Drake General Store, 1151 Queen St W. from 12-8pm on November 28, 2017.

Why are we doing this?

We support over 5,000 youth a year through call, text and chats, 6 days a week, and we keep growing! We’re very proud of the peer support service we’ve provided since 1994 and we do it on a non profit annual operating budget of just $300,000. 30% of our budget is made possible through generous donations and fundraising. This holiday season we need your help in raising $25,000 to support 2SLGBTQ youth year round.

In order to ensure we have the funds to provide all the infrastructure that makes it possible for incredible 2SLGBTQ youth to regularly contact us, we’re fundraising to make sure all of our annual operating costs are covered. Last year we were just $2000 short.

As a small and mighty staff team of 4 , only 2 of which are full-time, we work efficiently to make sure that all our efforts go towards boosting our impact; Giving Tuesday helps us get wide exposure to kick off our annual holiday campaign. Since about 70% of all donations for non profits come in December, it’s the season for us to make sure that 2SLGBTQ youth get the support and attention they deserve.

Why is this so exciting?

Because most days of the year there aren’t places to visit the LGBT Youth Line. We’ve got inspiring events, like our Youth Awards, our Craftathon, and our provincial Pride tour. In this cold month, we’re very happy to cordially invite you to join us for at our pop up at the Drake General. Yes, you’ll be able to get our cool identity buttons for a donation too.
